Dante Carpenter and Tom Bowering had a weekend visit to Belgium on the 21st/22nd May and raced both Saturday and Sunday.
On the Saturday they rode the Omloop Oostniewkerke race where Dante finished 5th and Tom 33rd, and on Sunday the Omloop Hooglede – St-Josef where Dante grabbed his first win in Belgium and Tom finished an excellent 21st.
Here is Dantes’ account of the race:
The race had a very edgy start with a lot of jumping around . Just over half way through a group off three jumped clear gaining a good lead very quickly, a lap later it became clear to me that this was the move of the race, so as we hit the head wind section I jumped on the other side off the road to the front off the field . I was on the rivet pulling someone else across who didn't do many turns while going across to the leaders, joining them with three to go. Coming in the bell lap the jumping around started and the Tielste rider was very aggressive, on the hill round the back of the circuit he attacked. I went straight past him on the climb pulling us clear of the other two, he then jumped again into the corner off the finishing straight i was able to follow and with about 150m to go i came past him, i new i had won with plenty of time to celebrate . i am over the moon with the win. With many thanks the team and all the sponsors and to my dad and Tom Laker for all their help on the day.
